Auditorium Upgrades

Princeton Engineering Services (PES) is providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, as well as construction administration services for the needed upgrades in the existing auditorium located on the first-floor level of PS 8.

The scope of work includes new portable chairs and bleachers in lieu of fixed seating to allow a more functional space for the school. The auditorium is a Public Assembly space, with current license No. 301460336, and a maximum listed occupancy of 456 people. The number of occupants appears to have been calculated based on the Old NYCBC. The scope of work for the auditorium upgrades will not entail a change in the existing occupancy load.

Currently, the auditorium is fully operational and used by the school daily. There is clear evidence of deteriorated and damaged wood flooring in the aisles and under the seat areas. In addition, the seats have many scratches, indentations and at some locations protruding metals.

Overall recommendations for the auditorium upgrades include replacement of existing flooring, movable seating, LED house lighting, new audio/video system-local system, new projector, stage lighting, storage areas and new supplemental cooling.
